To use Bulk Registration to register 10 or more trees at a time, please send an email to logan@FamilyTreeRegistry.org with subject "Bulk Registration" containing the following information in exactly the format described below. You will receive a reply by email when your trees have been registered. If you do not follow the format below, you will be asked to correct your submission accordingly. If you wish to register 500 or more trees, a custom format can be developed by request. If you do not have a Family Tree Registry account, you must first create one.
Repositories that participate in Bulk Registration will be listed on a separate webpage, with links to their websites (if provided), in order of the number of trees registered (the more registered, the higher the placement on the list). Repositories registering at least 100 trees in total (not necessarily at one time) can have a banner image displayed in the list (no larger than 480 x 60 pixels).
The first paragraph of a submission should be formatted as follows:
Each subsequent paragraph should contain information about a single tree (or collection of related trees), formatted as follows:
If optional descriptors are ommitted, the corresponding semicolons (;) must not be. The first paragraph must contain three semicolons and each subsequent paragraph must contain five.
An example submission:
This format uses a limited set of descriptors for ease of registration. Once trees are registered, they and surnames appearing on them can be edited normally and other descriptors can be applied. If you have a special need to apply descriptors not available in Bulk Registration to many of your trees and/or surnames, please contact us.
If you do not edit trees after Bulk Registration, it is strongly encouraged that you include tree descriptions with geographic information in your Bulk Registration.
Valid ethnicity/sub-ethnicity and religion/sub-religion pairs can be found by using the dropdown menus on the main search page. Ethnicities and religions can be specified without their sub-categories (e.g., Slavic/).
